There’s something about this time of year that makes me gravitate towards fantasy. My impulse is to blame years and years of being on Cybils speculative fiction round one panels, and somehow subconsciously missing that this year. But it also just may be this time of year (granted, my reading is often fantasy-heavy) that makes me want to read about imaginary worlds.
Either way, here’s what’s on my pile:

The Dark is Rising by Susan Cooper (I haven’t done a reread of this in a couple years; I’m actually working my way through the whole sequence)
Maskerade by Terry Pratchett
The Girl with the Dragon Heart by Stephanie Burgis
The Children of Virtue and Vengeance by Tomi Adeyemi
A Blade So Black by L L. McKinney
Only Ashes Remain by Rebecca Schaeffer
The Bear and the Nightingale by Katherine Arden
What are you looking forward to on your TBR pile?
I haven’t read much since I went back to full-time teaching (with a TON of writing assignments) starting Aug 19th.
I have 16 books that I just checked out from the library, but I’m gravitating towards 2019 publications from diverse genres: public intellectual / layreader nonfiction by Gladwell. nonfiction gerontology (my field) _Elderhood_by Aronson, literary fiction by Danticat, historical fiction focusing on refugees by Lefteri, Oh, and Brene Brown’s most recent is ready for pick up after church today.
But I am not rigid about new-ish releases. I do have a 2017 book by Lee that came highly recommended by the YA librarians at my local PL.
The Epic Crush of Genie Lo. I file grades on 12/12, then I’m diving into these books!
Enjoy working through your TBR pile!
