It’s been a rough year for me. Not life-altering serious illnesses or anything like that, but a lot of change and a lot of adjusting. And a lot of facing the fact that I’m no longer *gulp* young. What is it George Burns always said? “You can’t help growing older, but you don’t have to get old?” (Or something like that.) Most days, I’m okay, but there are sometimes when I just get in a funk about the direction of my life.
Two things have helped. The first are three fantastic songs:
All of them help remind me that I am just fine the way I am, and to not listen to the inner (and outer) voices that would make me think otherwise.
The second is a decision to go back to school and get my MLS. I’m terrified of this — my insecruities ask: who will want to hire a 46 year old librarian? — but I am pretty sure it will help me in the long run to be doing something I should have been doing all along. I’m just applying to schools now, so I don’t plan on any drastic changes just yet. But I am also excited.
So, here’s to a much better year!
Congratulations on getting over the hump! Sometimes our inner voices just need to go for walk. Away from us. I'm happy to hear you're heading back to school. You'll be amazed at where that might take you. I'm excited to watch your progress through twitter and wish you success in returning to school.
I went back, online, this year. It's been great.

And I'm thinking about going to a 2 year college tO become a medical radiographer because I don't think my school library job will exist for the 28 more years I need to retire. Good luck!

I've been freaking out about my age quite a bit lately too – 52. When I graduated from high school my mom was 42 and I couldn't imagine ever being that old. I am tired with my current job – accounting, but don't have the energy to start over.
If I was 46 and wanted a MLS I'd do it. Good luck to you.

Funnily enough, Taylor Swift's song has also been helping me lately because her message underneath that catchy music is to be yourself always and unapologetically 🙂 I think it's great that you're going back to school. Age doesn't matter at all in the classroom! If anything, you have a bigger well of information to draw from 😀
