It’s a new month, a new year, and I can tell I’m burned out on middle grade fantasy, because I didn’t read a single one this month (unless you count Amulet, which is a graphic novel)!
My favorite?

What were some of your favorites this month?

I'm glad that The Jane Austen Education stood out thus month. I've got Teen Boat sitting on my shelf. I may bump it up the TBR.

My 2 favorites:
Where'd You go Bernadette — was quirky, refreshing and tons of fun!
and
The Rent Collector — surpisingly, a Shadow Mtn published book — really well done.

I read “Happier at Home” by Gretchen Rubin and loved it. It was a great way to start the new year.

What did you think of NAVIGATING EARLY? I'm still not sure if I liked it or not. It was such a strange story and it dragged and dragged, but the end picked up. So, yeah … what was your opinion?

Susan, I agree: it was a strange story, and it kind of meandered. And I thought the ending happened too quickly. But, I believe that Clare has a gift for evoking a sense of place, and for that reason alone I really enjoyed Navigating Early.

Melissa: you're not the first person to recommend Where'd You Go Bernadette to me. I really ought to bump that one up on my list.
