This week it’s all about judging books by their covers! Pick a book–any book, really–and search out multiple book cover images for that book. They could span a decade or two (or more)…Or they could span several countries. Which cover is your favorite? Which one is your least favorite? Which one best ‘captures’ what the book is about?
I’m going with a popular classic, just because there’s so many covers out there. I give you Pride and Prejudice, by Jane Austen:
There’s the obvious thing to do: put a picture of the author/someone who could be the author on the cover:
Or, better yet, illustrations of people who could be characters in the book (though I don’t quite understand the room; why not go rustic and do the whole house?)
One that has nothing to do with the book at all (what, was P&P Greek?):
For something different, try using the fact that letters were really important:

Ones that scream “chick lit” rather than “stuffy classic”:

Ones that went for the “rustic feel”:

And ones for the English class, because they’re too snobbish to read something with a real picture on the cover:

Shameless movie (or almost movie) tie-ins:

I think I did this book mostly to get this cover out there (though I have yet to figure out what I really think of the idea of the book):

Great choice, Melissa. There are such a variety of covers. And I like a good many of them. It would be hard to pick a favorite. I like the sixth and seventh ones best, I think. Though some of the chick lit ones are fun too.

I like the sixth and seventh ones, too! I like the “rustic” ones, in addition to several others. I’m not a big fan of the chick-lit covers for this book, though (even though the reason for it is obvious).

The cover of the book that I own isn't listed but I love several of them. Especially the peacock one! What is up with the toga? Who in the world would think that fits the story?'>>Your last one..LOL!! I've thought about reading it just for kicks!! I just finished P&P the other day…loved it and as I'm writing this I'm watching P&P with Colin Firth!!

The last one is definitely the best. Bone crunching zombie action.

I know, Staci, I couldn’t find the cover I own, either, and that’s my favorite. I was just too lazy to scan it in. The sixth and seventh ones are good, though I think I like the letter ones best. Out of these, anyway.>>And Amira, LOL. Cracked me up. I’m still waffling on whether or not to even bother with it… I just might. For kicks.

Nice post. I like the quill & wax one, and I think the yellow and pink hearts are a bit much. The piano cover is interesting. Why do you think they chose to cut her in half?

This was a great post. Cover Art is a big thing for me.

I love the 6th one with the focus on characters, especially sisters, and the piano. And oh, the last one is creepy!

I really want someone to actually read P&P&Zombies, just so I know whether or not it's really a *good* parody, or just stupid. I'm just not sure I want to be that someone…>>Abbot — I think the yellow and pink hearts are a bit much, too (and I have to throw in: Meg Cabot doing an introduction? Really? Because Jane Austen is ALL about romance… yeah…). I wondered about the bird cage, too, Sherry. What the heck does that have to do with anything in the story?>>Perhaps they cut her in half, Abbot, because it's Jane, and she's just not as important as Lizzy??

I rather like the third-from-the-left chicklit one.
