I probably should put up a reading list for my own challenge, huh?
I’m going to do one of each:
Food:
The Sharper Your Knife, The Less You Cry, Kathleen Flinn
Bonus – The Fortune Cookie Chronicles, Jennifer 8. Lee
Dear Julia, Amy Bronwen Zemser
Chocolat, Jeanne Harris
Travel:
A Year in the World, Frances Mayes
Bonus – The Ridiculous Race, Steve Heley
People:
Captain Alatriste, Arturo Perez-Reverte
Bonus – Searching for Crusoe, Thurston Clarke
If I might be so bold as to give an opinion here, then I’d say you should skip 1421. It’s not worth your (or anyone’s) time.

You are always welcome to give an opinion, Amira. It’s removed. Any suggestions for people? (I discovered that my TBR list is woefully short of books that would work for the people qualification…)

I didn’t think I had such power. π I do have one friend who liked 1421…>>I’m thinking that the ones I’d recommend aren’t at your library. Something by Ella Maillart, if you can find it, would be good, I think. She was a fascinating woman and I enjoy her writing too.>>http://www.ellamaillart.ch/index_en.php

I was really excited to read the Fortune Cookie Chronicles, but was ultimately disappointed.>>I’d be curious to hear your thoughts though…

I just started the Fortune Cookie Chronicles and I am enjoying it so far. Great idea for a challenge. Not sure I can commit to it but I will enjoy seeing what gets read. I always thought of myself as a big reader until I met you…how in the world do you get so many books read and reviewed? I am impressed and always enjoy checking in to see what you’ve been reading.

This might be a stretch for People, but I recommend “Night Train to Lisbon” by Pascal Mercier. It is the story of a classics professor who leaves his university life and travels to Lisbon to learn about a remarkable man, Amadeu de Prado. In learning about Prado, from his surviving family, friends and Prado’s own writing, the professor also learns about himself. Brilliant.>>Marcia Calhoun Forecki>Better Than Magic>http://www.eloquentbooks.com/BetterThanMagic.html
