Geeking for a Cause

Or… how we came about our decision to (try to) buy local food.

The topic: Choose a political or social issue that matters to you. Find several books addressing that issue; they don’t have to books you’ve read, just books you might like to read. Using images (of the book covers or whatever you feel illustrates your topic) present these books in your blog.

And explanation of why I chose these books can be found here.

  1. I’m reading and loving Animal, Vegetable, Miracle as we speak. I have The Omnivore’s Dilemma on my TBR, and I desperately want to buy (but am waiting to borrow) Fast Food Nation and In Defense of Food. It’s tough trying to buy local around here, but I’m right there with ya!

  2. Oooh, I wish you’d written more. How are you managing? How big is your definition of local? Etc. Etc. Write another post, please, and tell us all about it, 🙂

  3. Most of these books are on my TBR list, but I hadn’t heard of the art of the commonplace. I read animal, vegetable, miracle recently and am really enjoying making some of her recipes (esp. the swiss chard one, Kingsolver’s book really helped me in figuring out what is in season when.and strawberry rhubarb crumble). Unfortunately, our local farmer’s market is not entirely ‘local’, so you have to be really careful in what you choose.
