‘Tis The Season…

for family vacations. We’re off tomorrow bright and early for Utah … and for 10 days of crazy running around trying to see as many people in as short of time possible. Oh, that, and a family reunion. C and M are missing the first three days of school so we can do this, but since this reunion was planned two years ago (when we were living some place where school started just a bit later) and we figured that the second week of August wasn’t a bad time to go on vacation. Ha! Were we wrong! (I’ve had to tell principals, teacher and other assorted school personnel the same story over and over again. Thankfully, everyone’s been pretty sympathetic. It does mean that the girls — M especially — will be hitting the ground running when they start school on the 20th. Can you say, “Make up work”?)

At any rate, we are looking forward to seeing relatives — my grandparents and aunts, uncles and whatever cousins show up to the shin-digs; in-person friends — both old-old, semi-old and new-old; and blogging friends — I get to meet Amira, finally, and we’re planning on going to the bloggersnacker to see as many Times & Seasons and By Common Consent people as possible.

I’ll probably get some reading done in between all the visiting (we’re going to a family camp where I don’t have to see my kids for a week! I may just like this….), but I’m going to try and tear myself away from my little addiction here, and not blog for the next week and a half.

Hopefully, I can remember what the books are about when we get home!

  1. Thanks everyone… I’m trying not to sweat it, Nancy, but this whole middle school thing has got me all stressed out. You think it was <>my<> first day from the way I was acting…I’ll give it a look-see, inkling. If not while in Utah, then when I get home. 🙂

  2. Which part of Utah? I have a lot of family in the SL Valley. I would love one day to go through Moab and those NP cities down there (Gma is from Monticello). Have a blast. This addiction sometimes needs a little break–although after being gone 10 days myself I feel like I have major catching up to do…

  3. Actually, we’re here right now (so much for staying away, right?). We’re in Salt Lake City (well, Sandy, really) for now, but we’re off up Provo Canyon tomorrow for the next week at a family camp. 🙂

  4. Hope you have a wonderful time meeting with family and friends. Will you by any chance be in Vernal or Roosevelt this go around? My husband and I just drove across Kansas after visiting Adam-Ondi-Ahman, Liberty Jail and Independence. We finished listening to A Thousand Splendid Suns and started Good Guy. It was a pleasant drive through your state.

  5. Oh, and don’t you just love the drive through Colorado to get to Utah? I love that canyon between Glenwood Springs and Denver. I think the prettiest part is just out of Glenwood Springs. Do you go that way?

  6. booklogged — yes, we are looking at heading out to vernal. Hubby’s mother’s family is out there, and we’re planning on visiting his grandparents’ graves. Is that where you are? I’d love to get together, if we can swing it. We’re looking at being out there on the 17th, around lunch. We didn’t drive out through Colorado… we have old friends in Laramie, so we went out that way. But, we’re planning on driving back through Colorado. I’m looking forward to it.And the bloggersnacker was a party (last night, late!) of all the people associated with primarily LDS blogs and various hangers-on. I kind of felt out of place; Hubby’s an LDS blogger, but I don’t consider myself one. I’m a book blogger who happens to be LDS. I don’t really consider myself part of that “scene”. Still, there were good brownies, and some good conversations. And I managed to reconnect with two guys from my freshman year of college. <>That<> was a flashback.
