We’ve finally found a house! We close on November 20th… It’s the first house we’ve ever bought, and I’m still a bit anxious about the whole thing. I keep expecting something to go really wrong, but nothing has (so far!). What has happened is that it’s sucked up a lot more of my time, making phone calls, talking to inspectors and sub-contractors, signing papers. (In addition to Halloween — and we’re probably moving Thanksgiving weekend!)
The location is great: close enough to the church and elemenatry school to walk, and not too terribly far for Russell to still bike to work. It needs work — landscaping in the back, lots of painting (I’ll be danged if I EVER look at a white wall again), and the basement needs new carpet (and the dining room and two bathrooms need the carpet to come up). But it’s nothing we can’t handle. Right? Right??
Melissa-
It’s beautiful!I love the trees in the front. And yeah, you can handle painting and carpeting. Last Saturday we put some hardwood laminate in our bedroom (okay Dad did it as we hovered around) and it has made a big difference! (Our old carpet was undistinguishable from the dog hair matted on it.) We really want to come and visit you guys next spring sometime. I enjoy your blog- it makes me want to do something like it!

Yay! I’m so glad you found something. I like laminate too. We had it in the only house we ever owned and I’d definitely put it in again.
I am living in the house of white walls for two more years. But maybe after that I can have something besides white. I’ll just hang up lots of maps.
How new is it?

Looks beautiful, and the walking bit is terrific. Wood floors are so much nicer than linoleum–easier to clean, too.

The house is only 13 years old; which is really unusual for the location. Most of the houses in this area we’ve been look at are 35 to 40 years old. That’s part of the reason we jumped at it. I love old houses; I just don’t trust us to be able to keep one. (We’re not handy people — yet.):)
